It's the little things...

Last night I came home and found a wonderful dinner made and a bouquet of dark pink tulips arranged beautifully on the table. It brought a very big smile to my face and the amazing guy that did all of this "just because" gets major points!

The SLO Life

A huge rainstorm yesterday and today left a full rainbow tonight that stretched over Cal Poly infront of the green hills. It was beautiful.

CABO, CABO, CABO!!!

Oh, where to begin . . . Mexico was amazing!!! Basically Ben and I did absolutely nothing, which is what we needed and what Mexico is all about. The trip highlights include:

  • A gorgeous view of the ocean and hearing the crashing waves from our room.
  • Picture-perfect weather (lots of sun, clear skies, and a nice cool breeze).
  • Sleeping in late everyday.
  • Lounging poolside working on our tans every afternoon.
  • (My favorite) - unlimited chips and guacamole and drinks (served poolside of course)!
  • Covered hammocks on the beach.
  • Dinner in San Jose del Cabo on Friday.
  • Lunch in Cabo San Lucas on Saturday.
  • Amazing food and very friendly people everywhere.
  • Successful shopping -- beautiful plates and a mirror.
I was so happy while I was there and sad to leave. Definitely could have stayed for another week. From a gringo who was worried about banditos, I highly recommend everyone to go.

Spring Break means CABO!

Well Ben and I are off to Los Cabos, Mexico for a relaxing week in the sun. Hopefully I will be able to blog and post pictures while I am there to make everyone jealous, but I make no guarantees. Hasta la vista!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day came and went and it was great!!! We all had so much to celebrate...finals were over, 2D gel hell was over, and J had received her acceptance letter to UCLA Medical School...so we partied to make the Irish proud. I enjoyed some Midori's and others had the traditional irish car bombs with our amazing corned beef (major points for the cooks - K and J).

So in our world there is always drama and plan changes and of course it happened for our party. The party was supposed to happen at J and SC's but the SWAT team and police from all over barricaded the street off at around 3pm and no one could get in. I guess some guy on the corner of her street threatened to shoot the police when they served a warrant, so there was a standoff. Well we needed to party, so at the last minute we moved to K's. J really wants to have a party, so looks like we are celebrating Cinco de Mayo.

2D Gel Hell

Ok, so the two-day training has turned into five days! Five very, very long days. I have finished Day Three and the only reason I have survived to this point is because K is there suffering with me. Without her moral support, I wouldn't have lasted through Day One. To give you an example so you don't think I'm just complaining - the professor had us PRETEND to be doing a protein quantification in preparation for tomorrow. We have years of experience working in a lab and don't need to do a mock experiment of something as easy as quantification - what a waste of time! So yeah, he's an idiot. We are definitely looking forward to the St. Patrick's Day Party Friday night with some yummy corned beef and green drinks!

The Vans Regional Cup at Northstar

This whole weekend had the Vans Regional Cup taking place at Northstar. There were events all three days, but the only one we were able to see was the snowboarding half pipe. It was so much fun to watch as we went up the lift next to the event. The day started out wonderful but the last little bit turned very dark. The end of the day was filled with a very strong, bitter wind and snow but we were determined to go until the lifts were closed. We were some of the few who stayed until the very end, so we enjoyed empty runs. The last day of skiing ended with a wonderful run all the way down to the village.

Day 2 at Northstar

Well yesturday was definately not ideal, but still fun. It was snowing throughout the day but the slopes had a good amount of powder on them from the storm on Thursday night. Today was picture-perfect. There was not a cloud in the sky and fresh powder everywhere! Ben and I enjoyed the wonderful ski conditions and perfecting our technique. We are sore and exhausted, but looking forward to another exciting day tomorrow.
