Today is a very long, late day in the lab. Right now I'm just waiting to be able to analyze some samples before I can go home. The exciting news in my little world is the publishing of the entire cow genome! So to celebrate here is a (really bad) old school picture of me from my cattle showing/judging class exactly 7 years ago.I do need to find the picture that my Dad took of both Ben and I with the heifer. Got to share the old school fun! :)

Earth Day 2009

Last year, I successfully gave up my Aquafina addiction and Ben used train transportation in Europe. So far this year we have given up plastic bags!

My parents gave us Flip and Tumble bags for Christmas and I love them! They are huge to hold a lot and easily fold down to a small size without a separate case. Plus a lot of our local stores give us a $0.05-0.10 refund for every re-usable bag we use! (Other good brands include Baggu, Envirosax, and RuMe.)I have more plans for 2009 that include: using more cloth napkins/dishtowels/rags to cut back on the paper product usage, continuing to hang laundry to dry (I have always been a huge fan of this), and a little vegetable garden.

The Cat Ladies

At the end of last week the house was a mess. Seriously a disaster. So I took advantage of being all alone on Saturday (Ben is currently out-of-town) and went to de-cluttering/organizing/scrubbing the whole place. I was quite proud of myself when I settled in to watch Grey Gardens on HBO after 10 hours of work.I was so glad I spent the day cleaning.

I do recommend the movie and now really want to watch the 1975 documentary. If you don't know the story of Big Edie and Little Edie, read the basic version here.

Big Kid Toys II

Ben's suitcase was stolen off of the train in Brussels.

I heard Brussels was shady. Saw that Brussels was shady. And now I know Brussels is shady.

In the suitcase was the wonderful Canon EOS 40D (among other things). I have one word - Insurance! Now we are the proud owners of the EOS 50D and happily tested it on our favorite model!If you are missing a suitcase, check out this unique site!
