I Heart The Simpsons

Last nights Simpsons episode (That 90s Show) was great! Ben and I couldn't stop laughing and loved all of the pop culture references, definitely one of the best episodes in a very long time. If you missed it, check out www.fox.com and it should be under the Full Episodes link.

Snow at 2250 FT?

Ben was up at the Adelaida Winery in Paso Robles on Wednesday evening where the ground was covered in snow and it started to lightly snow right as he was leaving! It seems that there is always weird weather this time of year (proof - check out last year).

Music Flashback

Ben has a really bad cold and so decided to stay home from work (I am lucky and have the day off as a paid holiday). Now when I stay home sick from work, I lay on the couch and watch crappy daytime television all day (not soap operas, but old shows and courtroom television à la Judge Judy). He decides he is going to sit in the big chair and move all of my old music off of the 1999 purple iMac (he really wants to get rid of the old thing) and onto the server with all of the other music. It was a lot fun to remember what was a hit in my world circa 1999-2002. While examining the music quality, Ben played "Name that Tune" with me and was surprised that I could name all the songs almost immediately as well as could sing along (for the record I can't sing, the kitty kept waking up and glaring at me) as I can't do that with his favorites on the radio. I can't wait to create a new old school playlist on my iPod!

He was really happy to see this one song!

Photographer - Check!

After a few weeks of searching through UK photographers' websites and contacting via email, Ben and I have booked a team that has good pictures and an even better price! They do tend to favor the black-and-white look, whereas I am a huge fan of color, so Ben put his PhotoShop skills to the test to see if he could edit the photographs to give me a few with saturated color. With a quick attempt, it looks like he passed the test!

Weekend Summary: Movies!

My sister Heather and her boyfriend Matt made a last-minute decision to come down to SLO for a weekend visit on their way down south to Disneyland. Ben and I started the crazy, busy weekend with a date on Friday night to see Juno (great funny movie! go see it!). On Saturday we had some wedding stuff to do in Santa Barbara, so my sisters came along to do some shopping and help me find cute shoes (no luck finding the wedding shoes though). On Sunday we saw Atonement (to quote Heather - "Wow, that was depressing.") and picked an old DVD (10 Things I Hate About You) to watch Sunday night (total high school flashback - what were we wearing!?). Now I am busy doing everything I should have been doing over the weekend!

Big Kid Toy Fun

Ben's fun new toy arrived in the mail today and we enjoyed playing with it using our favorite model (though she wasn't happy, we were interrupting nap time). We both can't wait to use the fancy new camera on our big trip!
(I love her face! It is clearly saying - "I HATE YOU. I WAS SLEEPING. GO AWAY!")

15 Minutes of Fame

My work contributed to a Modern Marvels episode on milk, which is airing for the first time tonight (January 7th) at 8pm on the History Channel!

Toe Pick!

I surprised Ben with a date last night to go ice skating! There are no ice skating rinks on the Central Coast, but over the holidays there is a small temporary rink set up in front of Atascadero City Hall. I love ice skating and after Ben's first experience last night, he discovered he doesn't love ice skating as much as me!
The rink is open through 10pm on Sunday if you are interested and if the rain ever stops!

Conquering the Icy Hill of Terror

Since Colorado was so successful last year, we decided to start a little tradition and head to Tahoe for New Years! The drive up was fine, the snowing didn't start until our first day on the slopes at Alpine Meadows (which gave nice powder the next two days). After my attempt last year, I have given up on my dreams of becoming a fearless snowboarder and am now focusing on becoming a decent skier. I lived on the blue runs, which proved to be difficult for me, but I did improve greatly on my parallel skiing which was my goal for the weekend! Jesse's friend's uncle (did you follow that?) allowed us the use of his cabin and it was gorgeous and comfortable, I definitely felt spoiled. It was nice to just relax after a long day on the slopes in the hot tub, followed by a homemade dinner and card game or movie. This is definitely becoming a great yearly tradition and I can't wait until next year!
